Definition of domestic violence
The United Nations defines violence against women as "all acts of violence directed against women, and causing or likely to cause physical, sexual or psychological harm or suffering to women, including the threat of such acts, compulsion or arbitrary deprivation of liberty, whether in public life or private life."(Declaration on the Elimination of Violence against Women, UN General Assembly Resolution 48/104)
